MOSES LAKE — Two people died Saturday morning when the vehicle they were riding in collided with a semi towing two flatbed trailers on state Route 17 north of Moses Lake, blocking the road for four hours, according to the Washington State Patrol.
Christian G. Schuermann, 40, and a 13-year-old girl, both of Moses Lake, were driving northbound when a semi heading south attempted to make a left turn onto Northlake Road. The front of Schuermann’s 1958 Ford Thunderbird struck the semi as the truck turned through the northbound lane.
Both people in Thunderbird died at the scene, WSP said. It wasn’t clear whether they were wearing seatbelts.
The truck driver, 31-year-old Orvil L. Magruder, of Ellensburg, was uninjured. Davis Automotive and Welding of Beverly towed the semi. The totaled car was towed by Vista Towing of Moses Lake.
The crash is under investigation, WSP said, and charges may be pending. It’s unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved, WSP said.
