Updated at 2 p.m.: The Kittitas County Coroner has identified the Ellensburg man who died after he was found at Central Washington University suffering from stab wounds as Hector Mejia Villa, 23.
Police will continue interviews today with people who knew an Ellensburg man who died after he was found with stab wounds in a Central Washington University parking lot, a CWU spokeswoman said.
CWU police officers found the 23-year-old man at 10:45 p.m. Saturday in a parking lot on D Street, near the university public safety and parking office. The man’s name was not made public as of Monday morning.
He was taken to KVH Hospital, where he later died. Police are investigating the stabbing as a homicide.
Search dogs and members of Kittitas County Search and Rescue assisted university and Ellensburg Police officers who combed the scene for evidence for much of Sunday.
“They don’t have any concrete leads today,” said Linda Schactler, CWU’s director of public affairs.
She said police are not ready to make any conclusions about the motives for the stabbing.
The man was not a university employee or student.
The official cause of death has not been determined, and a schedule for an autopsy is expected by this afternoon. This story will be updated at www.dailyrecordnews.com as more information becomes available.
