No permit applications have been submitted to the city in regard to the construction of a water park or outlet mall at the south Interstate 90 interchange.

Developer Gene Martin continues to work on advancing the project, and this spring has been resolving unrelated legal matters, he said. It is possible that the water park portion of the project could see activity in terms of permit submittals this summer, he said.

Martin first proposed the water park project about five years ago, but had trouble with financing because of the recession. The $70 million to $80 million project will be anchored by hotels at both ends, an indoor water park at the south end, a convention center at the north end, connected by the outlet mall. Martin said he has been working with outlet mall developers this spring. The plan is to build the water park and water park hotel first.
