KITTITAS — Kittitas County Hardware encourages gardeners to swap their excess harvest in a “leave some, take some” food exchange it’s sponsoring from now to the end of September.

The exchange, a small greenhouse next to the store on Main Street in Kittitas, is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday to Saturday and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays.

The greenhouse will be locked up when closed, and the store will throw away spoiled food.

The store encourages exchange users to stand their greens and herbs up in water for freshness.

If the plan is successful, the store said it might keep the exchange running through October and try it again next year.
