Central Washington University senior Mike Nelson has been selected as an NCAA Division II All-American by the American Football Coaches Association for the 2013 season.

Nelson was one of five offensive linemen selected to the AFCA Division II All-American team. A four-year starter at offensive tackle for the Wildcats — Nelson started every game in crimson and black from 2010 through 2013 — he was also a four-time first-team all-Great Northwest Athletic Conference selection during his career.

“This is a great honor for Mike,” CWU interim head coach John Picha said. “He has worked hard to play the game well and he is very deserving of all of the honors he has gotten.”

Nelson becomes the first Wildcat since Adam Bighill in 2010 to earn All-American honors. He is the fifth player in the school’s NCAA Division II era to be selected to the AFCA D-II All-American team, joining Bighill, Buddy Wood (2009), wide receiver Johnny Spevak (2008) and punter Joe Smith (2003) with that distinction.
