MARYSVILLE, Wash. (AP) — A man has died and another was hospitalized after a three-story house in Marysville, Washington caught on fire, authorities said.

Firefighters responded Thursday to a report of heavy smoke coming from the home about 10 miles (16 kilometers) north of Everett, the Daily Herald reported.

A man was found dead in a basement bedroom and another man on the first floor was taken to the hospital as a precaution, Marysville Fire District firefighters said. Seven people lived in the home. No other injuries were reported.

The cost of the damage was not immediately known.

The Snohomish County fire marshal’s office is investigating the cause of the fire.

Firefighters do not believe the home had any working smoke alarms.
