Fresh Bucks

Rather than writing about one of our many vendors this week, the Ellensburg Farmers Market wants to reintroduce a great program that can be found at our market: Fresh Bucks.

If you have stopped at the information booth, you may have seen some flyers or overheard conversations about Fresh Bucks, but what is it? Fresh Bucks is part of SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program), also known as food stamps, that allows individuals enrolled with SNAP EBT to use their card at market to receive more produce at market.

At the Ellensburg Farmers Market, we have a $2 for $5 matching ratio, so for every five dollars you spend with your EBT card at market, you will receive an additional two dollars, just for shopping at our market.

For example, let’s say that you swipe your EBT card to get $30 in tokens for shopping at the market (because all of our wonderful vendors will accept the tokens in place of cash with the exception of our concession foods), using the Fresh Bucks program you would be getting the $30 in tokens you originally wanted, as well as $12 extra dollars that can be spent on fresh fruits, vegetables, herbs, plant starts and mushrooms.

Be sure to check out the Fresh Bucks program, or get any additional questions answered about Fresh Bucks at the information booth this upcoming Saturday.
