February was a month filled with expected milestones and unexpected surprises for Ellensburg and Kittitas County.

The month began with Brock Ravet breaking the state record for career points, topping the previous record of 2,851 points. Ravet then broke 3,000 career points on Saturday, Feb. 23.

Before the first week of February finished, a false active shooter report caused law enforcement to rush Central Washington University’s campus. The aftermath causing students and staff to come together and debate future safety procedures.

Spirit of the West returned to Ellensburg, partnering with a ranch roping

competition, which drew visitors to leave the warmth of their houses and brave snowy conditions.

Winter storms enticed children and their families to Craig's Hill to sled and created powder heavy conditions for racers in the Patrol Race.

Below are the eight images the Daily Record has chosen from February and why they were chosen.
