Doug Demory was awarded the Distinguished Service Award at the April 2019 Washington Recreation and Parks Association annual conference.

The award honors recently retired professionals for outstanding service in the field of parks and recreation.

In October 2018, Demory retired from the city of Ellensburg after 40 years of service. Demory started his career as a recreation supervisor before moving to the parks maintenance division, where for the last 26 years he served as the parks maintenance foreman.

Under his direction, the Ellensburg park system grew from 135 acres to 250 acres.
