With a hammer and a dream, competitors in the 12th annual Kittitas County Fair nail driving contest gathered at the small stage on the first day of the fair.

With prizes on the line, contestants had to drive nails into a beam of wood as fast as possible, with the fastest times in each division winning. Sponsored by Knudson Lumber, the contest divided competitors into age groups: 6-10, 11-14, 15-17 and 18 and older, which all varied in hardness of wood, length of nails, and number of nails.

Prizes varied as well, with scooters and outdoor game kits for younger contestants, and tool kits for older one.
