Trio Uncontrollable

One of Portland’s best jazz groups, Trio Uncontrollable, will perform at 7 p.m., Nov. 7 in the Central Washington University Music Building Recital Hall, according to a news release from CWU.

The group is led by guitarist Dan Balmer along with Alan Jones on drums and Damian Erskine on bass. Trio Uncontrollable brings together three unique musical voices from differing disciplines that results in always surprising, always in the moment, jazz creativity. Relying on Balmer’s compositions, the band takes his music places neither he nor anyone else would have ever dreamed or imagined. Combining the propulsive power of Jones’ uncontainable drum set mastery, the super fat grooves of bass virtuoso, Erskine, and Balmer’s broad palette of guitar wizardry the trio has wowed, moved, amazed, and destroyed audiences for the last two years.

“We are beyond excited to have these guys here,” said Chris Bruya, CWU’s Director of Jazz Studies. “I’ve known Dan for decades from when I used to live and teach in the Portland area. Always amazing musicianship.”

The trio will present clinics during the day and perform for the campus and general public that night. While the concert is free, CWU does anticipate a full house, so arrive early to get your seat.

The performance is sponsored by the CWU Music Department.
