The Valley Voices community choir is preparing for a new season and looking to add new talent to the adult choir.

Long-time musical director Lee Bates founded the large ensemble in the spring of 2012 and is now passing the baton to Make Music Ellensburg director Jan Jaffe to continue his vision — music can enrich everyone’s life.

Valley Voices originally began as the “Sparrow Singers,” is the only mixed-voice community choir in the lower Kittitas County.

It has taken its motto to new heights over the years, “Singing well to do ‘good’ in the community,’ doing benefit concerts to help fund charitable organizations in the Ellensburg community.

Since its inception, the choir has helped raise close to $20,000 to help children and families in need in the Ellensburg community.

Valley Voices has supported Ellensburg Sparrow Club, HopeSource, the Kittitas County Historical Museum, F.I.S.H. Food bank and the Habitat for Humanity with performances at the Ellensburg Summer Concert Series, Friday Art Walk venues, Moments to Remember, and the CWU Community Choirs’ Concert.
