To the Editor:

In the last 100 years the population of the world has increased from 1 billion to 8 billion. Oceans have risen 10 inches during that time (2 1/2 inches in the last 20 years). News outlets report how glaciers are melting away, that the Arctic is now open water, the ice shelf at Antarctica in collapsing, and polar bears have no ice to stand on. Unusual weather events are featured in the news with the implication that they are triggered by human-caused global warming.

However, NOAA’s global warming model for the next 100 years predicts a future ocean rise of one-eighth inch each year which translates to 1 1/4 inches every 10 years. This despite the fact that there are nearly eight times as many people as 100 years ago with an accompanying exponential increase in use of fossil fuels and the resultant atmospheric C02. Over the last 100 years a new study by Turku University in Finland found that humans are responsible for only 0.01 degree Celsius of the rise of the 0.1 degree Celsius in global temperatures.

So in 12 years when the oceans have risen 1 1/2 inches, the fear mongers such as Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez say it will be too late to do anything to save the world — it will be all over.

But does AOC’s warning refer to global warming and climate change? Evidently not so much. The proposed Green New Deal isn’t so much about controlling the climate as it is about a total takeover of all aspects of life in the U.S. — Medicare for all, what foods we eat, fuel restrictions, 100 percent renewable energy, free college, wage controls, control number of children, dismantlement of the military, gun control, abolition of ICE, abolition of Customs and Border Patrol, immigration reform, voting rights to all residents — citizens or not. Socialism on steroids.

AOC’s chief of staff, Saikat Chakrabarti, recently said, as quoted in the Washington Post, that the Green New Deal “… wasn’t originally a climate thing at all. … we think of it as a how-do-you-change-the-entire-economy thing.” He and other former Sanders’ staffers formed Brand New Congress, an organization designed to fund and elect congressional members dedicated to socialist principles.

Human-caused climate change is just a convenient vehicle for other “reforms.”
