To the Editor:

The 3/10 of 1% sales tax was originally recommended by a citizens advisory committee and voted in by our citizens in 2007. The impact for the Sheriff’s Office alone has been particularly significant.

The tax allowed the Sheriff to add six officers, an evidence clerk and courthouse security. These officers handle over a third of the calls at the Sheriff’s Office, providing better coverage 24/7 across the county including assisting our state and local agencies. The officers are more visible, can provide better backup along with increased officer and public safety.

As the population, visitors and cross-state traffic continue to grow, it is important to have this sustainable funding to keep these officers on the street. This is not a new tax. Please vote yes to continue to support our 3/10th's officers.
