To the Editor:

In the last two weeks, the Ellensburg Education Association and the Ellensburg School District faced significant challenges in settling their contract. This process moved into mediation and culminated in teachers picketing in the downtown area after a 99% vote to strike if the contract could not be settled.

Teachers were met with overwhelming support from individuals, businesses and nonprofits in this community. In just a few short days, countless community members came out en masse in support of Ellensburg's teachers receiving a fair and competitive wage.

We know that the most critical factor in a child's education is the quality and experience of the teachers they interact with, and we are grateful to have the support of the community as we continue to provide an excellent education for the students of this valley.

Everyone is grateful that the contract has been settled, that the school year began on time and that teachers and students are in their classrooms launching into another incredible year of learning together.
