Thumbs down to roundabout editorial

Thumbs down to the Daily Record Editorial Board if they think it is a joy to the people of Ellensburg to have to deal with the roundabout at the West Ellensburg interchange. Trucks cannot go around it without running over the cement curb, how long before that breaks down? I have seen people turn left onto University instead of going around the roundabout, not to mention the speed people are going when approaching it. Your Editorial Board must have illusions of grandeur if you think this is such a wonderful intersection.

Thumbs up to Jazz in the Valley

One of the most entertaining weekends of the year is here as Jazz in the Valley continues today and Sunday. There is something for everyone in this year’s lineup, whether, jazz, Latin jazz, blues or even rock. Plus it all takes place in the historic downtown core.

Thumbs up to Cle Elum Roundup

If you can’t wait until Labor Day for some quality rodeo action, you don’t need to wait. The Cle Elum Roundup at the Washington State Horse Park started Friday and continues to day. This is a great rodeo to watch local and regional talent compete.

Thumbs up to Kittitas Valley League of Women Voters

As always, the Kittitas Valley League of Women Voters staged much-needed candidate forums for races on the Aug. 6 primary ballot. The work of the league has made a significant difference in Kittitas County by allowing the public to hear directly from those seeking office. Thanks to the league and its volunteers for doing this vital work.

Thumbs up to Boxes of Fame

This artwork for this year’s Ellensburg Rodeo Hall of Fame fundraiser was revealed this past weekend and the boxes created by local artists. The boxes will be on display at the Western Culture and Art Center through Aug. 28 leading up the auction at the Hall of Fame Induction Banquet on Aug. 29. Make to swing by and check them out.

Thumbs up to firefighters

A couple of lightning storms this past week led to literally hundreds of lightning strikes. The amount of territory that must be monitored for fire starts is extensive in this region. Our thoughts go out to the men and women who will respond to fires that arise.

Thumbs up the concert in the park series

Ellensburg’s annual concert in the park series starts Thursday at Alder Street Park and will continue on Thursdays throughout August. This are wonderful family friendly events that showcase some the exceptional music talent in the community. The Thomas Creek Band kicks off the series. The concerts run from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
