Thumbs down to road work mess

Thumbs down to Central for the road work at the corner of 8th and D (University and Wildcat Way) for the mess, the dirt and the noise and inconvenience. They also seem to ignore the noise ordinance starting at 7:15 in the morning. Come on it is summer, windows are open and this is a residential area.

Thumbs up to local bakery

Thumbs up to Vinman’s Bakery. Every time I drop by for a snack or a loaf I have to smile and consider how lucky we are to have a world class bakery in our little town.

Thumbs up to a little football

On Friday, Central Washington University hosted the 3A/4A All-State game and on Saturday, the Kittitas Secondary School football field will be the site of a semi-pro football game. This is considerably more football then is typically seen in Kittitas County in mid-July. It is very good that Central hosted the all-state game and gives hope the university may have luck in bidding to be a location for a state title game.

Thumbs up to Pat Fitterer

High school coaching legend and Ellensburg native Pat Fitterer received a well-deserved honor this week when he was inducted into the National High School Basketball Association’s Court of Honor this past week for his many contributions to the game and to the support he’s provided to the young people he coached over the course of his career.

Thumbs up to Soccer Bawa

There are many youth sport camps over the summer but Soccer for Bawa stands out with its mission and purpose to raise money for the Bawa Health Initiative, which works to improve medical care in Bawa, Cameron. The camp was originated by Central Washington University professor Blaise Dondji. This year’s camp for boys and girls ages 15-18 is July 15-18 at the Ellensburg High School soccer field.

Thumbs up to final performance of “The Music Man”

If you’ve been planning to catch of performance of Valley Musical Theatre’s “The Music Man,” tonight is your final chance. The show concludes with a performance at 7 p.m. in the Morgan Performing Arts Center. It is a great show that highlights many talented people in the community.

Thumbs up to Kittitas library project

The Noon Rotary of Ellensburg group took on a project to restore the entrance to the Gilmour Memorial Library in Kittitas. Each of our libraries in this county is critical to the community it serves. The Gilmour Library is well-loved by residents of Kittitas and thanks to the Rotarians, with in-kind donations from Premier Paint and Flooring, the entrance is much improved.
