EPHRATA — After an 0-3 start, the Ellensburg High School football team got into the win column versus Ephrata High School on Friday night.

The Bulldogs left with an 18-6 triumph to open up CWAC play.

It was a defensive battle, as Ellensburg and Ephrata were 0-0 until the Bulldogs came up with an interception from Joey Webster with 3 1/2 minutes remaining in the first half.

Brenden Swanson punched it in five yards out for Ellensburg to take a 6-0 lead after the missed PAT.

Ellensburg added six more in the third quarter off another interception, this time by Swanson, and the senior rushed for his second touchdown of the game for a 12-0 lead with six minutes left in the third quarter.

And in the fourth quarter, the Bulldogs last score came on a Ryan Ferguson pass to Bryce Messner from 15 yards out on fourth down with a couple minutes remaining in the game.

Ephrata added a touchdown late in the game.

“It felt good, it really did,” said head coach Jeff Zenisek. “We’ve been battling pretty hard the whole time.”

Ellensburg hosts East Valley High School on homecoming weekend at 7 p.m. next Friday.
