Ellensburg Rodeo Finale -Jason Minor

Jason Minor prepares to compete in the wild milking competition at the Ellensburg Rodeo finale Monday.

The Ellensburg Rodeo has long been known as hosting most of the biggest names in rodeo every year. Its payday continues to grow and it’s the marquee event in late August/early September.

However, another unique aspect of Ellensburg is the way it highlights its locals who have earned their way into the arena to compete in front of friends, family and out of towners who fill the stands on Monday afternoon.

Many locals backed up in the timed event chutes, threw a rope or two and rounded a barrel pattern.

Tie-down roping

Chris Weidenbach’s 10.5-second calf earned the roper a first place check of $420. Terry Power was second with a 12.7 and $280.

Breakaway roping

Annie Minor’s clean run of 2.7 seconds netted the cowgirl $700.

Team roping

Jacob Sparling and Matthew Anderson teamed up for a 5.3-second steer and $450 apiece for their time.

Barrel racing

Heather Forgey’s 18.43-second barrel racing time was tops on Monday afternoon for $304. Close behind was Kassidy Bremner’s 18.82 for $233. Joleanne Spelts’ 24.10 generated $163.

Wild Cow Milking

The Jason Minor/Ruley Stingley team took home first place honors with a 37.0-second run. The team won $1,575.

WPRA Breakaway roping

Rylee Potter was the fastest of the weekend in breakaway roping. She won the first round with a 2.4-second run and then won the second round as well with a 2.8. Her 5.2-second average was six-tenths of a second faster than Macy Fuller.
