Highly skilled Operating Engineer Union operators will be showing off their talents as they go head-to-head in a contest operating various types of equipment to be crowned the best of the best this weekend.

The annual Operating Engineers Top Hand competition is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday at the training center, 16921 Vantage Highway outside Ellensburg.

A free lunch is provided from 11-2 p.m. as well as cotton candy, popcorn and beverages. A cash bar will be on site to serve adult drinks. During the event, there will be a hay ride to give a tour of the facility and equipment areas and an opportunity for the public to operate excavators and cranes for themselves.

There is a separate kids area featuring activities like jumpy houses, a hay hunt, face painting, balloon animals, sandbox fun, hard hat decorating, sporting games, kiddie pools and more.

The event is free and open to the public.
